Chapter 2- Shinigami and Tenshi

Koji: *rushes towards the window and looks out* “I don’t see anyone…”

Chibiji: “you dare challenge my authority?!”

Koji: *bluntly* “uh… yeah”

Chibiji: *anime sweatdrop* “kids these days…. Anyway, hm… I wonder which guardian it was….”

Koji: “can’t you tell?...”

Chibiji: “it’s hard to differentiate between the powers of a tenshi and a shinigami before actually meeting them.”

Koji: “is that so…. Hey, Chibiji…”

Chibiji: “nani?”

Koji: “how exactly am I supposed to find either guardian?”

Chibiji: “good question… hm… ah! I got it… take this.” * Hands Koji an unusual device*

Koji: “um… thanks…”

Chibiji: “I call it the TSG Communicator, here you can learn about your, your ally’s, and your enemies’ stats, not only that but-”

Koji: “looks kinda like a flip cellphone…”

Chibiji: “yes, just wider, ahem, like I was about to say, do you see that lower portion of the TSG?”

Koji: “yeah, what about it?”

Chibji: “there’s a circular jewel, on the left of it a tenshi’s wing, the right a shinigami wing… whenever it blinks it means that one of them is around… the jewel represents me and because I’m officially ‘found’ it remains lit up…”

Koji: “The symbols below it are the elements I need to learn, right?”

Chibiji: “yep, try pushing the ice button, it should show your stats on it right now”

Koji: “okay” *Koji pushes the button and on the screen the word level 1 - class F appeared*

Chibiji: “that means you’re a beginner… each class has 10 levels, the highest is level 60- Class A. The way you raise your level is through battles and experience points”

Koji: “this sounds like something out of a RPG.”

Chibiji: “well, where do you think RPG’s originated from?”

Koji: “pong?”

Chibiji: *anime fall* “kids these days… anyways, if you need me contact me through the TSG, well I’m off”

Koji: “where are you going?”

Chibiji: “A guardian and realm leader has better things to do than baby-sit a 16-year old Chosen.”

Koji: “baby-sit?!”

Chibiji: “you’re still a beginner, you still yet need to learn how to fully use your spear to its utmost extent… but the coast seems clear so see ya!”

*The next day at Hoshi Koukousei*

Koji: *in his head* “hm?... I wonder what my guardians are like…”

Yuya: *takes TSG away from Koji* “what is this?”

Koji: “um… a toy”

Yuya: “don’t you think you’re a little too old to be bringing toys to school?”

Koji: “well, Keitaro always brings his Gundam Models to school… you know what… nevermind…”

Yuya: *anime sweatdrop* “yeeeah… well anyways, here ya go…” *gives it back*

Sensei: *walks in the room* “Ohaiyou gozaimasu minna”

Minna: “ohaiyou gozaimasu”

Sensei: *notices TSG* “Koji, you know how I feel about electronic devices…”

Koji: *clueless* “um… no.”

Sensei: “well, then, um, some things you don’t need to know…” *flashback*

Chibi Sensei: “I wonder what this button does…” *pushes button on some random device he found on the streets and gets zapped*  *end flashback*

Sensei: “some things will scar you for the rest of your life…. Well Koji, put it away, I don’t want to see it…”

Koji: “hai, Sensei.” *Koji notices that two flashing lights are coming from the TSG* “darn, I’ll have to check later…” *during lunch*  “good, the lights are still flashing, so both guardians are around, but where?”

*Out of nowhere Chibiji appears*

Chibiji: “heyya Koji!”

Koji: *startled* “where’d you come from?!”

Chibiji: “that’s not important, I just heard you say that both lights are flashing”

Koji: “how?”

Chibiji: “you said it with the TSG open… how else do you think you can communicate with me through long distances?”

Koji: “never really thought about that, but yeah, so how am I supposed to find them now?”

Chibiji: “ well it’s rather complicated, all you know right now is that your guardians go to this school, if only you had a feather from each of them….then you’d be easily able to find them…..so for now all you can do is find two people who are ying and yang.”

Koji: “total opposites…”

Chibiji: “not necessarily total opposites, just two people who are opposites yet are able to work together harmoniously…”

Koji: “hm?... who do I know are like that?”

Yuya: *walks past Koji with Ayu* “I wonder where Frey is… I feel like I need a punching bag right about now…”

Ayu: “go easy on him; he did just recover from a series of head injuries… “

Yuya: “oh alright… well next time I’ll hit him twice as hard!”

Ayu: “there you go~!”

Koji: “two people who are opposites… hm?... who?” *bell rings*

Chibiji: “figure out later, you get to class.” * That evening, Koji was forced to buy some groceries for his mother, realizing how late it was getting Koji decides to take a shortcut through the park. Already halfway through the park, Koji noticed how the road seemed to be unfamiliar. He stops and looks back to find that the path behind him has been blocked off by several trees without any gaps upon which to escape. He turns around to travel down the path to find that it too has been blocked. Koji drops his bags of groceries and ‘released’ his spear. *

Koji:“Alright, whatever you are, be prepared to be decimated by the Chosen!”

Onigumo: *glides down on a string of web*  “heh… a cocky kid, aren’t ya?”

Koji: *takes out the TSG and looks up Onigumo’s stats…. Level 3 Class F appears on the screen* “so you’re just 3 levels above me… big deal…” *Koji attacks and misses, hitting a tree and freezing it. Koji runs to pick his spear and Onigumo goes into hiding.*

Onigumo: *shoots web at Koji’s spear and locks it to the frozen tree along with Koji’s right hand. Koji tries to break free but instead gets his other hand stuck on the web. Onigumo glides down and stands in front of Koji.*  “hahaha, what are you going to do now Chosen? Without your spear and hands, you are weak.” *Koji kicks him in the face and Onigumo then webs Koji’s legs* “that’s it! Say your prays Chosen!”  *just as Onigumo was about to inject his poisonous fangs into Koji and web the rest of him, a dark shadow flashed by and flamed the web on Koji freeing him*

Shinigami: *wearing a kiba mask* “Well Chosen, I see you’re too weak to kill this chump so I’ll show you the meaning of power…” *Shinigami’s katana is engulfed by fire, she takes her stance and the next second she’s on the other side of Onigumo.  Onigumo explodes into a million burning pieces and disintegrates into the soil.*  “well, Chosen, can you guess who I am?.....”

Koji: “uhm…..”

Shinigami: “it’s me, Yuya, you baka!” *takes off mask*

Koji: “Yuya?!”

Yuya: “what, surprised that I’m a shinigami?...”

Koji: “uh, yeah… johto mante! Then that means that Ayu is the tenshi?!”

Chibiji: *appears out of nowhere* “guess so…”

Koji: *startled*  “quit doing that!”

Chibiji: “well you’ve found out who your guardians are… wait, where’s the tenshi?”

Yuya: *sigh* “studying…that’s Ayu for ya…”

Chibiji: “well tomorrow, the training begins…”

Koji and Yuya: “training?!”

Chibiji: “well Koji, you better get those groceries back home…”

Koji: “oh! Yeah, right! Ja Ne Yuya!

Yuya: “Ja Ne…”

*The next day, early at Hoshi Koukousei in a desolate part of the school,  Koji, Yuya, and Ayu are waiting for Chibiji to arrive*

Yuya: “oi! Koji, doesn’t Chibiji live with ya?!”

Koji:  “he told me to come here first, so yeah…”

Yuya: “soka”

Koji: “so your guys brooches are your weapons right?”

Ayu: “yep, Yuya has a katana and I have bow and arrows, the stripes on them show what elemental power we have.”

Yuya: “Ayu has Water and Air… not to mention the additional ‘Light’. I, of course, would then have Fire, Earth, and ‘Dark’.”

Chibiji: *appears out of nowhere, again* “hence they are able to work together to build upon each others strengths and weaknesses…”

Koji: “soka…”

Chibiji: “hm… you don’t seem startled this time…”

Koji: “eh… I figured you must’ve teleported yourself here or something…”

Chibiji: “well actually it’s because of… eh… on second thought… I’ll tell you about it later… so yeah, I’ve brought you here today to teach you how to use the elemental part of your weapons…”

Ayu: “actually Chibiji, Yuya and I already know how to.”

Chibiji: “oh, is that so?”

Ayu: “yep. watch… ‘Tenrai Tsubasa’ Release! I summon ‘Hurricane Arrows’!” *Note: Tenrai Tsubasa means ‘Divine Wings*  *Ayu’s brooch turns into a bow and arrow and as she summons one of the elemental portions of her weapon, her arrows are surrounded by hurricanes ready to shred through the very threads of life of her enemies. Level 10 attack.*

Yuya: “ ‘Bella Morte’ Release! I summon ‘Fire Shadow’!” *Note: Bella Morte means ‘beautiful death’*  *Yuya’s brooch turns into her katana. Her katana becomes engulfed by a dark flame, not only is it a powerful attack but because it is also a fire-type weapon, it leaves a burning sensation through whomever Yuya chooses to slice, leaving her enemies dying of a slow painful death. Level 10 attack*

Chibiji: “and I see you’ve also learned to use ‘Elemental Combos’…”

Koji: “ ‘Elemental Combos’? nani? Okay, what the heck is going on?”

Ayu: “ Well first of all, you should know that your spear is more than just a spear. As you’ve already figured out, you can use Ice from your spear, but have you ever used your spear without freezing whatever it hits?”

Koji: “now that you mention it, no…”

Ayu: “Well then Koji, you must still not know how to control the flow of your chakra ( chi energy). Chakra is what you use to control your elemental abilities, the more you put into your attack the higher the level and power, but your chakra does run out, so you must be careful to how many elemental attacks you use. Of course through the right type of training your amount of chakra will increase.”

Koji: “soka, so in other words, I could’ve use my spear as just a spear but if I wanted to I could’ve froze my enemies with an even more powerful ice attack.”

Ayu: “exactly! Now, ‘Elemental Combos’ are techniques you learn as you raise your levels. Having more than one elemental ability, a combo, would thus mean that we would combine these powers together to create an even more power state in which our weapons can transform to. Of course, ‘Elemental Combos’ drain more chakra so your weapon can’t sustain that form for that long.”

Yuya: “okay so enough with the explanations… so Koji, what did you name your spear?”

Koji: “name my spear?”

Chibiji: “ah, yes, I forgot to tell you, you must name your weapon, otherwise anyone who knows about elemental weapons can use it.”

Koji: “and naming it would change that how?”

Chibiji: “elemental weapons are made from the finest of materials from all the eight realms of Hachi-Tsuki. Each weapon made contains the pure dedication of the sacred blacksmiths, upon which, along with the materials, brings it to life. You, who is able to release it from its dormant state is its master. You must give it a name upon which it will respond to whenever you speak it.”

Koji: “well spear, I will call you… Lavitz!”

Yuya, Ayu, and Chibiji: “?”

Koji: “what’s wrong with that?”

Ayu: “nothing, but why Lavitz?”

Koji: “it’s based on the main character of an RPG and you have to admit this whole thing does seem to be RPG-ish.”

Yuya: “can’t argue with that…”

Ayu: “ditto.”

Chibiji: “well- wait a minute, what level and class are you girls even in?”

Ayu: “we’re both level 60- Class A.”

Yuya: “yep~!”

Chibiji: “how is that possible?! Didn’t you two learn about your powers recently?”

Ayu: “actually we’ve known about them since we even knew anything…”

Yuya: “yes, my parents since I was very young would tell me about my destiny… how that I will become a shinigami, the guardian to the Chosen and someday, the guardian tenshi and I will help the Chosen save Hachi-Tsuki and… well, you know how the legend goes…” *Yuya, Ayu, and Chibiji become rather solemn*

Chibiji: “yes… well, you know it is the greatest honor to become the guardians to the Chosen…”

Ayu: “yes, we know…”

Koji: “mante! What happens?”

Ayu: “it’s best if you don’t know…”

Chibiji: “ahem, so then you guys must’ve went to the number one school in Hachi-Tsuki.”

Ayu: “yeah, we went to G.S.T. academy and graduated early as the top two students…”

Yuya: “which is supposedly normal for us, the guardians…”

Ayu: “yep yep.”

Chibiji: “soka” *bell rings* “you guys better get to class, after school, you two must help train Koji, being the highest level possible, it shouldn’t be too hard for you two…”

Ayu and Yuya: “hai”

*during class*

Koji: *talking to himself, deeply in his thoughts* “How’s it seem that my life has changed so quickly?… just last week I was your ordinary teenager, goofing around, playing video games, procrastinating… now I have three guardians, elemental abilities, a hand-crafted spear, and a destiny to save an entire elemental magic realm… I guess it’s nice to have high leveled guardians, but I wonder, how will this whole thing turn out… and their destiny? What is going to happen to them? I-”

Sensei: “Mr. Koshiro! Hello! Mr. Koshiro”

Koji: “ah! Hai Sensei!”

Sensei: “Koshiro-san, see me after class, I would like to have a word with you about zoning out during my class. So pay attention!”

Koji: “hai.”

Hishiro: *whisper/yelling* “Koji! Oi, Koji!”

Koji: *turns and says* “nani?”

Hishiro: “what’s with you? you usually don’t zone out that much…”

Koji: “eh… betsune…”

Hishiro: “nothing? Dude, I know when something’s bothering you, so tell me…”

Koji: “let’s pay attention to sensei, I don’t really feel like getting in trouble again…”

Hishiro: “…okay… well, I know you’ll tell me when you feel like it… so until then, let’s actually pay attention.

*later that day after Koji had a long lecture from Sensei, the training began in the woods near the rural area of the town.*

Ayu: “Koji, the first thing we’re gonna teach ya is about controlling chakra, seeing as how you already know how to release your spear. The way you go about that is learning to feel your chakra. Chakra runs throughout your body, the central portion where it is easiest to feel is around our stomach area. Now, close your eyes, release Lavitz, hold it out, and tell me when you feel a kind of warmth and fire even, kinda in your stomache.”

Koji: *eyes closed, his hand flat out with Lavitz on his palm*  “yeah, I can kinda feel it.”

Ayu: “good, now concentrate on it, telling it to move through the chakra streams into your hand and finally into the spear…you should be able to feel the chakra streams…”

Koji: “okay, I’ll try…” * Koji’s chakra slowly creeps into his hand area and is absorbed into Lavitz causing his spear to become an ice shard*

Ayu: “Koji, open your eyes!”

Koji: *opens his eyes to find that his weapon has changed* “nice! And it’s lightweight too… wait- what? It’s melting back into a spear….”

Ayu: “it’s alright Koji, you only have a little about of chakra and you put too much into your spear…but hey, there is still a little chakra left, try taking it away from your spear so your attack won’t freeze your target. Just concentrate.”

Koji: *Koji draws his chakra away from Lavitz and Lavitz gives the appearance of an ordinary spear. Koji gives it a test throw and confirms that it became a regular spear.*  “well Lavitz, it’s gonna be a while before we catch up to Ayu and Yuya, you up for the challenge?”  *Lavitz glows for a second*  “I’ll take that as a yes…”

Chibiji: “hey, why aren’t you helping?”

Yuya: “well, Ayu said she can handle teaching Koji the basics and well, I’m more of a sparring partner type of trainer anyways, so yeah… why aren’t you teaching him anything?”

Chibiji: “at the right time, I will…”  * a few weeks later after Koji has perfected all the basics*

Koji: “well Ayu, what am I gonna learn today?”

Ayu: “well, for the next few weeks, I’m not your trainer anymore, Yuya is. She’s gonna teach ya the uses of an elemental weapon during battle… it’s a little different than taking your time to change it then use it, you have to be able to change the state of your weapon at the moment when you need it. Don’t worry it’s not that hard, Koji, ganbatte!” *Translation Note: do your best!*

Koji: “ganbarimasu!” *Translation Note: I’ll do my best!*

Yuya: “well Koji, muhahahaha, your gonna be my punching bag for the next few weeks, isn’t that gonna be fun~?” *very very happy*

Koji: “define fun….”

Yuya: “well let’s begin~!” *Yuya releases Bella Morte and in mere seconds has her blade next to Koji’s throat.*

Koji: “Yuya! What the heck do you think you’re doing? Trying to kill me?”

Yuya: “Lesson number one, your enemies will never go easy on you like I am right now, expect them to attack you at a moments notice and if you can’t release Lavitz on the spot without taking your sweet time doing it, expect your life to end in seconds.”

Koji: “hai! But how do I do that?”

Yuya: “well, you’ve been working with Levitz for a while, what do you do when you release Lavitz?”

Koji: “well I-”

Yuya: *attacks again* “fight me while you think!”

Koji: “ow… fine!” *in his head while trying to dodge Yuya’s attack and failing time and time again.* “well I ‘release’ Lavitz, I- I… yell it, but when I do I always release him so that I can protect or grow stronger…so that I can protect so that means, I can release him w/o saying it as long as in my heart, I’m releasing him to protect… wow, that’s cheesy… but whatever works…” *Yuya was able to slash Koji again but Koji blocked with a fully released Lavitz*

Yuya: “so I see you’ve figured it out… gotta hand it to ya, you learn fast… well time to kick it up a notch…”
